f you're thinking about purchasing or constructing a custom made greenhouse there are a few basic measures to take into account for the greenhouse construction costs.
First and foremost, greenhouse construction is a particular type of building. You must never hire a builder that has not had ample experience in this type of construction. Greenhouse construction is expensive and must be constructed by greenhouse craftsmen.
Some of the problems when building a greenhouse leads to a contractors experience, scheduling, material knowledge and procedures. Working with glass, aluminum clips, nuts and bolts all are needing a skilled builder. The materials are unique to the industry as well as to each manufacturer. Trying to cut corners to save money by hiring an unskilled greenhouse builder will result in loss of money and you will not be satisfied with the longevity with the greenhouse.
Secondly, the manufacturing of the greenhouse as well as the manufacturer is vitally important knowledge to the builder. The two must have a working knowledge of what each one is planning. From the basic style, location, materials and attention given to details such as the tools, the clips, grooves in the aluminum, doors, vents, etc. there must be attention given to these major yet small detail. These tools and small parts are uniquely exclusive to the greenhouse builder. Just like with most crafts or art forms, there should not be room for errors or problems that are common in the construction.
Next, it is a team effort to build a greenhouse. From the first of the process, the designer, the builder, the manufacturer, the contractors to the laborers, all must be in sync with one another. The weather, the placement, the needs of the customer are all considered in every step along the way. Ignoring the importance of these could result in disappointment or loss. For example, if part of the team, the manufacturer sends the wrong part, or the builder does not hire ample workers, time is lost and so is the money. If a kit was ordered and parts were missing, the completion may not ever take place! Having to wait on a part or re-order the part costs time and money.
Finally, the process of building a greenhouse is a tightly fit schedule and process and the steps from beginning to end are all very important in the planning. It starts with the dream, the plan, the sketch, the working drawings, the quote, builder and manufacturer working with their architect, and finally the slab or contractor used along side of the greenhouse building. A local contractor will not have a group of experts at hand as readily as the greenhouse builder. He will have no knowledge of where to put a door or vent and how it pertains to the function of growing in a greenhouse. All factors involved in developing a greenhouse are many and the builder and manufacturer are keenly aware of the entire procedures. They are all well equipped to work with one another, for the pre and post planning phases of the custom greenhouse construction.
So, these are just a number of points to think about with greenhouse building and your greenhouse builder should certainly be equipped to sit down with you and explain in detail some with the critical issues in building your custom greenhouse.
