You can save a lot of money by growing your own perennial plants from seeds. The only downside to starting from seeds is that you might have to invest a little bit of extra time to grow your plants. However, for many avid gardeners half the fun of growing plants from seeds is the fact that the seedlings grow slowly and take a bit of tender loving care. After all, anybody can walk into a store and purchase a plant with beautiful flowers that has been raised in a commercial nursery and stick it in the ground. Growing a plant yourself from just a little seed is something to be a proud of.

In order to get started you'll want to study, organize and plan for the type of garden you want. In particular you'll want to choose which plants to grow and what the growing requirements are for the different types of seeds you plan to purchase. Different seeds will have different growing requirements in order to germinate properly.

Certain types of plants including plhox, delphinium, and bleeding heart will need to be started outside in the fall. You can usually learn the unique requirements for different types of seeds by reading the package and following the directions. For seeds that require cold treatment you can arrange them in flats and set them outside for between 30 and 45 days. After this they should be placed inside under lights.

Be sure to purchase your seeds instead of gathering them from mature plants. That way your seeds "come true" and grow into the kind of plant you expect. Usualy when seeds are collected from mature plants the results are not what you'd expect. The offspring often do not grow into plants that look like the parents.

After you purchase your seeds you'll need soil mix. Make sure the soil mix you buy matches the type needed for your seeds. You should also buy seed-starting inserts which are available online or at gardening stores. These inserts are designed to fit inside flats. The inserts with 20 rows are designed to fit inside 10 inch by 20 inch flats so that would be a good combination.

A lot of gardeners use an indoor portable greenhouse to keep their seeds growing under lights while they wait for them to germinate and grow large enough to be planted outdoors. There are many different sizes of portable greenhouses available to suit your needs. Usually you'll find a larger selection online that what you'll find at local stores.

If you're like many home gardeners you might not know about the many benefits that portable greenhouses have to offer. These portable structures come in many different sizes from smaller to larger and are fairly easy to put together. The main benefit is that you have the option of extending your planting season from earlier in the spring to later in the fall. Also, for people living in condos or apartments, portable greenhouse can be very convenient because you can still plant a garden even though you don't have a yard.

Once your portable greenhouse is assembled you certainly don't have to keep it in one place. A main benefit of these structures is their flexibility. However, once you have the greenhouse put together some will obviously be easier to move than others. Smaller greenhouse kits will be easy to move but larger portable greenhouses may require a few people if you want to move it from one area of your yard to another after it's been put together. You'll definitely want to take this into consideration when deciding what type of portable greenhouse to purchase.

There are also a variety of smaller portable greenhouses that are designed to be kept inside your home. You can use these greenhouse for many purposes, including keeping sensitive plants indoors during cold nights, or protecting them from the long, cold winter. Many gardeners also use indoor greenhouse to start growing seeds which are then planted outside once they grow into seedlings or juvenile plants. You can also use these smaller greenhouses to practice your gardening skills before moving to the great outdoors.

Not sure if gardening is the hobby for you? A portable greenhouse is a great way to get your feet wet and practice planting vegetables and flowers without making a huge commitment in terms of time and money. All you have to do is simply pack up your greenhouse if you decide that you don't have a green thumb. You can't do this with a permanent greenhouse building that in addition to costing a lot of money, will become a fixed structure in your yard once it's been established.

If you live in an apartment or condominium, a portable greenhouse will also make a nice addition to your patio or deck. This can be very handy if you don't have a yard to call your own wherever you live. These small greenhouse usually comes in kits but are simple to assemble and can be moved easily. Be sure to secure your greenhouse down so it doesn't blow away in windy weather. Some greenhouses will require more reinforcement than others.

You certainly don't want to deal with the mess created if your greenhouse should topple over or fly off your deck like a kite. As an extra precaution you should make sure to secure the bottom of your greenhouse with extra weight to keep it from falling over or blowing away. You can use either water filled buckets or bags filled with sand. Another option is to tie your greenhouse down with extra ropes and tie-downs.

Be sure to study all the various types of portable greenhouses available before you make your final purchase. You don't want to be stuck with something that doesn't work for your situation. Make sure you measure the area where you intend to store your greenhouse to make sure it fits. You also want to order a greenhouse that has room for all the plants you intend to grow. If you want to move or store your greenhouse during the winter months, make sure it will be easy to take apart and store once it's been assembled.
